JOHN NITTA MEMORIAL DENTAL CLINIC

Several years ago Dr. John Nitta and his family started our Dental Clinic setting it up with equipment that they donated. Shortly thereafter, the Arnold, Ca. Rotary also donated equipment which completed the initial working dental facility at our home comprised of two dental chairs, an x-ray machine, air and vacuum equipment. Dr. Nitta and his staff would visit the Orphanage whenever they could providing dental services to our children.

Dr. John Nitta passed away unexpectantly on September 6, 2000. We have named our clinic the "JOHN NITTA MEMORIAL DENTAL CLINIC" in honor of John. John loved and served his Lord by reaching out to the poor of this world.  One of his loves was the children at our Orphanage.  This scripture reminds us so much of John.  John 12:26  Whoever serves me must follow me; and where I am, my servant also will be. My Father will honor the one who serves me.

After Dr. Nitta moved to the Fresno, Ca. area, for several years, the only other use of the clinic was by a group of dentists from Pleasanton, Ca. who would donate dental services during their annual trip to San Antonio de las Minas.  We are very grateful to our Lord that this is no longer the case. Our vision for our Dental Clinic has always been to serve our Orphanage, the other Orphanage in the Pueblo as well as the people of San Antonio de las Minas. God has answered our prayers.  Please read on.

Dr. Rick Mohrlock and Marlene Kline, RDA, his Office Manager, come to the Orphanage on a regular basis approximately once each month. Dr. Mohrlock has developed medical files on all of our children and provides continuing dental care for them. He also serves others in the Pueblo.  Erika Espinoza Aguilar, daughter of Josue Espinoza, Director of the Orphanage, coordinates and provides Dr. Mohrlock with patients on each of his trips.   Dr. Mohrlock has his Dental Office in Oceanside, CA.  We are very grateful to Rick and Marlene for the sacrifices that they make for our kids.

Dr. Mike Roberts, who practices in La Palma, Ca. and is the Southern California Area Director of Christian Medical & Dental Associations has brought several Dental Teams to the Orphanage with his first visit in March 2000.  He brought a group to the Orphanage in January 2004 with his last outreach on March 13th and 14th of 2004 when he led a  40 member Christian Dental and Medical Team that served our Orphanage and the surrounding communities. Michael McLaughlin, Regional Director and Director for Community-Based Ministries for CMDA came from Portland, OR.  Roger Presgrove, President of Children's Network International, his wife, Roxana, and Vice President for Latin America, Robert Freeman were also part of the Team.  CNI helps our Orphanage with food and many other needs including the furnishing of medical equipment.

The Team used the John Nitta Memorial Dental Clinic, the Sala and the old church building to serve the people.  Dentist, Dr. Jerry Boshell made his third trip here coming all the way from Jasper Alabama and Dr. David "Poco Loco" Engst from Bellevue, WA. returned after having been on the January 2004 Team.  Dentists Dr. Jennifer Wu, Mountain View, CA., Dr. Yu-Hsing Kao, Santa Monica, CA, Dr. Edna Gongora Guadalupe, BC Mexico, and Dr. Ken Ho from La Canada, CA. came to our Orphanage for the first time.  We also had four physicians, Dr. Vimala Reddy, M.D., Irvine, CA, Dr. Marta Everton, M.D., Escondido, CA., Dr. Carl Duncan, MD and his wife Carol, from Siloam Springs, Arkansas, and Dr. Ned Stoughton, M.D. from La Jolla, CA. who came to serve the physical needs of the people.  Additionally we had  Medical students who came from UCLA, USC and Western University.  Dental students came from UCLA and USC.  Pharmacy students came from Western University and one nursing student came from Biola University.  Many people were served.

Pastor Jose Arechiga from Iglesia Cudrangular –Casa de Oracion brought several from his Hawaiian Gardens congregation to serve as interpreters for the dentists and physicians.  Many of the Dental and Medical Students played with the children sharing their love with them.  The March 2004 Team Photo is next below:

What a beautiful example of God's calling: Christian Dentists, Physicians, Dental and Medical Students and others  and a Christian Orphanage, all working together in partnership seeking to care for the poor. These men and women serve our Lord all over the world providing dental and medical care to impoverished people.
