Can I adopt children from the Orphanage?
Most of our children and teens have known parents or relatives, making it impossible for them to be adopted.  We do have some little ones who are adoptable.  Due to Mexican law, almost no adoptions from our Orphanage happened until 2005.  The laws changed, and in 2005 several of our children were adopted by Mexican nationals.

All adoptions are done through DIF, the Mexican social services.  They have authority over the orphanages, and the children who reside therein.  DIF does not permit a prospective family to select a child for adoption; DIF chooses the child for the adoptive parents.

Adoption in Mexico is not easy for non-Mexicans. You must be cleared by the Mexican government which can take a long time requiring a lawyer, considerable expense, and a lot of patience.  Click here to contact DIF.  You will find that DIF has posted some information on adoption.  Click here for information on the U.S. government adoption rules. They have a lot of excellent information about adoptions in Mexico.

How do the children end up at the Orphanage?
Most of the children have been brought to us by DIF (Mexico's Department of Social Service).  On occasion a mother, father or grandparent will come to the Orphanage and appeal to us to take their children because they can not afford to feed them. Many of the kids that come to us have been abandoned, and/or abused. Each child that is brought to us has emotional needs; for some the pain is very deep.

What is the cost of operation?
Our cost to operate the Orphanage continues to rise annually partly due to the inflation in Mexico but also because we are trying to meet the educational desires of our teens. We need about $13,000 in monthly income to properly operate the Orphanage.

Where does the support come from?
We receive no financial support but are now receiving some food and supplies from Mexican government. We live by faith that God will provide for our needs. He has been ever so faithful to us supplying our needs for well over 40 years beginning in 1967 by touching the hearts of individuals and groups who have sustained us with dollars, and donations of food, clothing and other needs of life. We have approximately 36 kids registered as living here together with approximately 10 additional kids who are members of the employees families. We anticipate DIF will be bring more children to our home in the near future.
It costs an average of approximately $300 per child per month in dollars to operate our home for children. You can help by offering to fully or partially sponsor a child.

    What does the logo mean?
    See Logo for the description.

Does it make a difference if I give my donations to the El Sauzal Orphanage or to the El Sauzal Foundation?
Yes, if you want to receive a tax deduction.  The Foundation is a non-profit 501C-3 charity registered in the United States to help raise funds for the Orphanage; it is authorized by the IRS to give deductions.  The El Sauzal Orphanage is a Mexican corporation, and is not eligible for non-profit status in the United States.  Please note:  Donations made to the El Sauzal Foundation, Inc. are tax-deductible.  Donations to the Orphanage are not tax-deductible.
