Viviana at her wedding
Mayra was thirteen when she came tp El Sauzal.
Our Kids' Stories: Mayra
Mayra, Fall 2006
Mayra is more outgoing and confident then when she first arrived.

Spring 2005
Roy interviewed Mayra, a spunky seventeen-year-old.  Although her family circumstances are sad, Mayra has found a new family at the Orphanage.
Roy: How many years have you lived here at the Orphanage?
Mayra: I have lived here four years.
R: Do you have any brothers or sisters?
M: We total eight children.
R:  Where do your brothers and sisters live?
M: I have a brother who lives with my father in Acapulco.  The rest live in Mexicali.  I am the youngest.
R: And your mama?
M: She died and I do not know my father.
R:  Do you like your school.
M: Si.  My grades are so-so.
R: What goals do you have for the future.  What do you want to do or be?
M:  I would like to be a professional hair dresser.
R:   How do you feel being in this place?
M:  I like being here.
R:   What is it that you like about being here?
M:  I am treated very nice here.  I ended up here and I feel very good about that.
R: :  Who are you best friends?
M: Betty, and just everyone.  They are all very nice.  I have a special relationship with Celia and Nancy and Norma are my best friends.
R:   What about Josue and Lilia?
M:  They are good people and for me they are like my parents.
R:  Why is Betty so special for you?
M:  I look to her as my mama.  I can confide in her and she is very caring and affectionate.  I love her very much.  When I have problems she helps me a lot and gives me advice.  Afterwards I feel much better.
R:   Do you feel love in this place?
M:  Si, I feel the love here and I feel like they are my family.
R:  Did you know anything about Jesus before you came to this Orphanage? What do you think about Him?
M:  Before I came here I did not know Jesus. I think that He is someone very good.  I give thanks to Him .  He loves us.  He is love.  He died for all of us.
R: Would you like to say something to those who help this place?
M:  Gracias for everything that you send to us.
